The Spanish phrase, "Creo En Mis Raíces" translates to "I Believe in My Roots."

This title is derived from the sculptural work of Camilo Ramírez, which has served as a reference for the accompanying drawing. The sculpture is situated in Tlaquepaque, a town in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. I first encountered it during a visit to México, where I sought to deepen my understanding of my parents' origins while simultaneously exploring my own identity.

When my parents chose to migrate to the U.S., they were uncertain about the future opportunities that would be available to their children; their primary hope was for a better life than what they could provide in Mexico. Growing up in the U.S., I have consistently felt a connection to my roots -- the language, the people, the traditions -- elements that are integral to my identity.

My work is an embodiment of my personal search for identity that explores traditions, beliefs, and values that I have inherited as a Mexican-American.
